Zelensky: Will Not Leave Presidency Until Ukraine Joins EU and NATO
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that he will remain in office until Ukraine becomes a member of the European Union and NATO. He emphasized that his departure is contingent upon achieving these objectives.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has declared his intention to stay in office until Ukraine secures full membership in the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). He highlighted that his mission is to ensure the country's security and its integration into European and Euro-Atlantic communities.
Zelensky's term officially ended on May 20, 2024; however, presidential elections were canceled due to the imposition of martial law and general mobilization. He believes that holding elections under the current circumstances is untimely and could jeopardize the nation's stability.
Previously, U.S. President Donald Trump supported the necessity of conducting elections in Ukraine, citing Zelensky's low approval ratings among the populace. Nonetheless, the Ukrainian leader insists that his priority is defending the country and achieving strategic goals, such as EU and NATO membership.
Zelensky also emphasized his readiness for negotiations with Russia but is unwilling to make concessions that could compromise Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity. He has called on the international community to intensify pressure on Russia and support Ukraine's aspirations for integration into European and Euro-Atlantic structures.
Ukraine's accession to the EU and NATO remains a central foreign policy objective for Zelensky's administration. He is confident that attaining these goals will ensure long-term security and prosperity for Ukraine, as well as bolster regional stability.
