Bashar al-Assad Granted Asylum in Russia
Former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his family have arrived in Moscow, where Russia has granted them political asylum. According to a Kremlin source quoted by TASS, the decision was made on "humanitarian grounds."
"President Assad of Syria, along with his family, has arrived in Moscow. Russia, acting on humanitarian principles, has granted them asylum," the source stated.
It was also reported that leaders of the Syrian armed opposition have guaranteed the safety of Russian military bases and diplomatic facilities in Syria.
Russia Hands Over Two Sites in Daraa to Israel
According to Al Arabiya, Russia has transferred two sites in Syria’s Daraa province to Israel. The region borders the buffer zone near the Golan Heights.
One of the transferred sites includes an observatory on Tel al-Hara Mountain, which provides strategic oversight of the area. Sources indicate that this move aims to strengthen monitoring and control in the region.
Turkey Was Aware of Syrian Opposition’s Offensive Plans
Reuters reported that the Syrian armed opposition informed Turkey about its plans to launch an offensive against Bashar al-Assad’s government forces approximately six months ago.
According to sources, Turkey allegedly gave its “silent approval” to the plans, after previous attempts to engage with Assad failed.
Opposition representatives reportedly told Turkey:
“Another path hasn’t worked for years. Try ours. You don’t need to do anything, just don’t interfere.”
However, U.S. officials, as quoted by Reuters, stated they were unaware of Turkey’s supposed approval of the opposition’s actions, including the offensive on Aleppo in northern Syria.
