USAID launches Local Government Development Project in Uzbekistan
USAID, together with Chemonics International, is implementing a project to support public authorities in Uzbekistan aimed at improving the efficiency and involvement of citizens in management processes.
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has launched a large-scale project to promote the development of local authorities in Uzbekistan. The project will be implemented by the American company Chemonics International in partnership with Uzbek government agencies. The purpose of the program is to increase the efficiency and accountability of local authorities, increase the participation of citizens in management and decision—making processes. Special attention is paid to the involvement of young people, which will create loyal staff to work in government. The Ministry of Justice of Uzbekistan, together with USAID, will also work on improving the legal framework to ensure effective governance at the local level.
