The US and Japan are moving closer to an agreement to restrict exports of technology for China's semiconductor industry. The White House is set to announce new export controls before the presidential election in November, the Financial Times reports. These include requiring non-US companies to obtain licenses to sell products to China.

The US is also negotiating with Japan and the Netherlands to create a new export control system that would circumvent the US "foreign direct product rule." Japan has expressed concerns about possible retaliatory measures by China, such as blocking exports of important minerals, which could significantly affect the competitiveness of Japanese goods on the world market.

China has already said it will protect the interests of its companies, emphasizing that such measures could worsen economic relations and provoke retaliatory actions.
