Escalating Conflict in Yemen

The death toll from US airstrikes on Houthi positions in Yemen has risen to 53, including five children and two women, with 98 others injured. The strikes are part of Washington’s broader military operation against the Houthis, whom the US accuses of threatening international shipping routes.

Houthi Retaliation Against USS Harry S. Truman

In response, the Houthi movement launched an attack on the US aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman, stationed in the Red Sea. According to Houthi sources, 18 missiles and a drone were fired at the US warship. Washington has yet to confirm any damage, but reports indicate an increase in attacks on US military assets in the region.

Trump’s Military Action Against the Houthis

Former US President Donald Trump previously declared “decisive military action” against the Houthis, accusing them of piracy and attacks on commercial vessels. Since 2023, the group has targeted ships linked to Israel, claiming solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza.

In January 2024, the Houthis temporarily halted attacks following a ceasefire, but threatened to resume strikes if Israel continued blocking humanitarian aid to Gaza.

Geopolitical Consequences

The conflict in Yemen and its impact on global shipping lanes have raised international concerns. The US and its allies vow to protect maritime trade routes, while the Houthis insist their strikes are retaliatory measures in support of Palestine.
