The UK has decided to completely stop funding Confucius institutes, which operate at 30 universities in the country. The idea of such a step appeared in early 2023 and was announced by Rishi Sunak, who was then Prime Minister. The British government expresses concern about the possible growing influence of China through these educational institutions, accusing them of promoting the values and ideals of the Chinese Communist Party. The move reflects the growing tensions between the UK and China
