Turkmenistan and the EU Discuss the Development of the Middle Corridor
Turkmenistan and the EU aim to strengthen transport infrastructure and logistics through the Middle Corridor.
In Ashgabat, a meeting was held between Turkmenistan's Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov and the EU Commissioner for International Partnerships, Sikelas. During the negotiations, the parties discussed a wide range of issues, including the development of transport infrastructure, energy security, innovation, investment, and the transition to a "green" economy. One of the key points of discussion was the development of the Middle Corridor, which has the potential to become the most important transit route between Europe and Asia.
According to Commissioner Sikelas, the Middle Corridor can significantly improve transport links, reducing cargo delivery time from several weeks to 15 days. This, in turn, will open up new opportunities for job creation and attracting investments in areas such as logistics, transportation, and trade. Turkmenbashi, located on the Caspian Sea coast, has strategic importance and may become a key hub for the transit of goods between continents.
In addition, attention was given to the possibility of creating an efficient infrastructure for using "green" technologies in logistics and energy, which will help reduce the carbon footprint and improve environmental indicators in the region. The significance of this project lies in the fact that it will not only strengthen Turkmenistan's economy but also open up new opportunities for EU countries, improving transit links between the two continents.
During the meeting, both sides expressed their readiness to continue cooperation and further develop joint projects aimed at improving infrastructure, promoting innovation, and strengthening sustainable economic growth in the region.
