Donald Trump's administration has launched a new wave of immigration policies aimed at controlling unaccompanied migrant children arriving in the U.S. According to ABC News, border authorities have been ordered to track minors to expedite their deportation or bring them before immigration courts.

Officials claim these measures are intended to prevent human trafficking. However, human rights organizations argue that they only worsen the situation for children, who are left without protection. The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) confirmed that unaccompanied minors have been divided into three groups, and their deportation will occur in four stages.

Another blow to migrant children came with the administration’s decision to terminate funding for legal assistance provided to minors. As of February 19, 2025, federal programs that previously helped children defend their rights in immigration courts no longer receive funding. This means that most minors will now have to represent themselves in court without legal counsel.

Upon taking office, Trump’s administration began reviewing all immigration policies introduced under Joe Biden. One of the first actions was the repeal of the "Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion" policy. Additionally, the CBP One program, which allowed migrants to apply for entry into the U.S. in advance—thus significantly reducing illegal border crossings—was shut down.

One of the most controversial steps was the order to prepare a new facility in Guantanamo, designed to hold 30,000 "criminal migrants." Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth called the camp the "perfect zone" for detaining undocumented immigrants, emphasizing that its establishment would significantly reduce overcrowding in existing detention centers.

The new measures have sparked a strong reaction from human rights groups and international organizations. Many have condemned the tightening of immigration policies, particularly those targeting children. Trump’s opponents argue that such actions not only violate minors’ rights but also endanger their well-being by deporting them without proper protection.

Despite criticism, the Trump administration continues to intensify immigration laws, arguing that these measures are necessary to combat illegal migration and protect national interests. The new president’s policies reflect his campaign promises to reduce the flow of migrants, strengthen border control, and reform the asylum system.
