US President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Tulsi Gabbard, a former congressman and participant in the 2020 Democratic presidential primaries, to the post of Director of National Intelligence.  According to Trump, Gabbard has a "fearless spirit" that she will bring to the community coordinating the work of 18 American intelligence agencies. Gabbard is known as a critic of American foreign policy. In the past, she has openly expressed support for Israel and actively advocated for a review of the US approach to Middle East conflicts. Her appointment must be approved in the Senate, where opinions regarding Gabbard's candidacy are already divided.  Political experts believe that her nomination symbolizes Trump's desire to expand the range of views in the intelligence community.
