Trump and His Inner Circle Believe Zelensky Should Step Down
Allies of Donald Trump have sharply criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, stating that he should show more gratitude for U.S. support and consider negotiations to end the conflict.

According to the Associated Press, doubts are growing within Trump’s circle about Zelensky’s ability to secure a diplomatic resolution. Some American politicians have even hinted that Ukraine may need a new leader who is willing to compromise.
Speaker of the House Mike Johnson directly expressed his opinion that Zelensky should either change his approach or step aside for someone ready to negotiate:
"Either he needs to come to his senses and return to negotiations with gratitude, or someone else should lead this country and do it. I mean, it’s up to the Ukrainians to decide, but I can tell you that we are restoring peace through strength," Johnson stated.
These remarks reflect growing dissatisfaction among Republicans, especially ahead of a possible Trump return to the White House. The former president has repeatedly hinted that if he wins the election, the U.S. will reassess its policy of supporting Ukraine and push for a swift resolution to the conflict.
Johnson’s statements, along with those of other Trump allies, may indicate that Washington is preparing to shift its approach to the Ukrainian crisis. This could increase pressure on Zelensky to soften his rhetoric and engage more actively in diplomatic talks, even if it requires making concessions.
How Kyiv will respond to such statements remains unclear. However, it is evident that political pressure on the Ukrainian leadership from the U.S. continues to grow.
