The United States demands that Turkey not grant asylum to Hamas leaders
Washington warned Turkey against the deployment of Hamas leaders, stating that their presence in an ally country is unacceptable.
The United States has appealed to Turkey not to grant asylum to Hamas leaders. State Department spokesman Matthew Miller noted that Hamas leaders should not be in comfortable conditions, especially in a country that is an ally of Washington. In response, Turkey denied reports about the relocation of the Hamas political office to its territory, saying that members of the organization visit the country only occasionally. Earlier, Qatar, which acted as a mediator between Hamas and the Zionist regime, suspended negotiations, expecting a more serious resumption of dialogue. Qatar also denied rumors of a demand for Hamas to leave the country. The situation reflects the growing tensions between the United States, Turkey and other countries cooperating with Hamas.
