Mumbai, India hosted the most expensive wedding in the country's history, spending over 600 million dollars. Anant Ambani, son of Asia's richest man Mukesh Ambani, and Radhika Merchant, daughter of a pharmaceutical tycoon, organized the festivities, which began with an engagement in January. The engagement was attended by 1,200 guests, including Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates and Ivanka Trump, with Rihanna performing for $6 million.
In May, there was a $150 million Mediterranean cruise for 800 guests, with performances by Katy Perry, Backstreet Boys and Pitbull. Pre-wedding events lasted seven months, and the wedding itself took place in a 27-story residence that accommodated 16,000 people. Guests were flown in on more than 100 private jets and roads were blocked off by police.
Boris Johnson, Tony Blair, David and Victoria Beckham, Kim Kardashian, John Sina and Bollywood stars were invited to the wedding. More than $300 million was spent on the wedding ceremony, and the newlyweds received about $130 million in gifts.
