The European Parliament called on the EU to abandon gas from Azerbaijan
The European Parliament has issued a resolution condemning human rights violations in Azerbaijan and recommending that the European Union abandon gas imports from that country. The MPs expressed fears that Azerbaijani gas could be partially replaced by Russian supplies, undermining the EU's desire for energy independence from Russia. The resolution also contains an appeal to the European Commission with a request to suspend the memorandum on strategic partnership with Azerbaijan in the energy sector, which was signed in 2022, until issues of respect for human rights and transparency of supplies are resolved.
