Elio Da Silva, a 73-year-old pensioner from Sao Paulo, has planted about 40,000 trees on his own for 20 years, turning an abandoned wasteland into a picturesque urban park. Without permission from the authorities, he spent up to 7 thousand dollars a year on this project, and in total invested about 140 thousand dollars. In 2008, after the pensioner's efforts became noticeable, the local administration assigned the site the status of a city park.
