The Taliban have expressed strong disagreement with the United States' decision to transfer Afghan aircraft to Uzbekistan, stressing that Washington has no right to do so. Representatives of the movement demanded that Tashkent make a "wise decision" and return all aircraft to the people of Afghanistan.

In 2021, during the Taliban's seizure of power, the Afghan military ferried about 25% of its aircraft to Uzbekistan and Tajikistan to avoid their capture. The Taliban have since called the equipment hijacked and insisted on its return.

Earlier, US Ambassador to Uzbekistan Jonathan Henick said that Washington had decided to transfer Afghan aircraft to Uzbekistan, which caused strong discontent among the Taliban. The situation complicates diplomatic relations between Afghanistan, Uzbekistan and the United States, calling into question the possibility of a peaceful resolution to this dispute.
