Shymkent resident earned 100 million tenge on illegal lottery in social networks
A resident of Shymkent organized an unlicensed lottery on Instagram, earning about 100 million tenge. The court found her guilty, sentencing her to one year of imprisonment and confiscating her property.
A resident of Shymkent earned almost 100 million tenge by organizing an unlicensed lottery in social networks. This case was revealed by the Agency for Financial Monitoring (AFM). As it turned out, the enterprising woman violated the law “On Lotteries and Lottery Activities”.
Without obtaining the necessary license, she arranged a lottery on Instagram, live streaming the game from two accounts. The prize pool included valuable prizes such as a Land Cruiser Prado SUV, smartphones of various brands, jewelry and household appliances.
The woman actively advertised the sale of tickets for the lottery, setting the price of one ticket at 5,000 tenge and offering discounts for the purchase of several tickets. According to AFM, in the fall of 2023, ticket sales brought the lottery organizer 96 million tenge.
The court found the woman guilty of violating the law and sentenced her to one year of restricted freedom. All property, including the car and other physical evidence, was confiscated in favor of the state.
