Seal Team 6 prepares for mission to protect Taiwan amid threat of Chinese invasion
Seal Team 6, best known for the operation to kill Osama bin Laden, is preparing for a mission to help Taiwan in the event of a military conflict with China. The preparations have been underway for a year and have intensified after warnings of a possible Chinese attack on Taiwan.
US Navy Seal Team 6, which rose to fame after the 2011 mission to kill Osama bin Laden, has been preparing for a year for a possible mission to defend Taiwan in the event of a military conflict with China. According to the Financial Times, these preparations have been stepped up following a statement by former US Indo-Pacific commander Phil Davidson in 2021, who warned that China could attack Taiwan within six years.
Additionally, CIA Director William Burns said last week that 20% of the CIA’s budget is now allocated to China-related operations, a 200% increase from three years ago. This underscores the growing importance of the region to US national security and preparations for a possible confrontation with China in the future.
The special forces’ training and increased intelligence activities demonstrate the seriousness of the threat and the US’s readiness to assist Taiwan in the event of an escalation.
