Sara Netanyahu Under Investigation: Accused of Witness Intimidation in Corruption Case
The Israeli prime minister's wife is suspected of pressuring a key witness and interfering in the case against her husband.
Israeli police have launched a criminal investigation against Sara Netanyahu, the wife of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. She is suspected of intimidating a witness and interfering in the corruption case against her husband.
What Happened?
Israel’s State Attorney’s Office confirmed that the investigation was officially opened on December 26, 2024. It is being conducted by the Israeli police in cooperation with the Cybercrime Unit.
The investigation follows a report by journalists from the program "Uvda" on Israel’s Channel 12. According to the findings, Sara Netanyahu allegedly instructed her husband's aide, Hanni Bleiwiss, to organize protests and an online campaign against Hadas Klein—a key witness in “Case 1000”.
Klein is a prosecution witness in a case alleging that the prime minister received illegal gifts worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. These included expensive cigars, champagne, and jewelry—many of which were reportedly requested by Sara Netanyahu herself.
Denial of Guilt and Previous Scandals
Sara Netanyahu has denied any involvement in witness intimidation. However, this is not the first time she has been involved in a corruption scandal.
In 2019, she pleaded guilty in a case involving the misuse of public funds. She was accused of spending approximately $50,000 on catered meals at the prime minister’s residence, despite having a full-time government chef.
The Case Against Netanyahu: The First Sitting Israeli PM in Court
The corruption trial against Benjamin Netanyahu began in January 2020, making him the first sitting Israeli prime minister to face criminal charges. He is accused of:
- Fraud,
- Breach of trust,
- Bribery.
Netanyahu has repeatedly denied all charges and has refused to plead guilty. However, the new scandal involving his wife may further complicate his political future.
What’s Next?
As the investigation continues, new revelations could emerge that might impact not only Sara Netanyahu but also the ongoing legal proceedings against her husband. If the allegations are confirmed, this could be another major blow to the Netanyahu family and the Israeli government as a whole.
