Russia Rejects Ceasefire Pause in Ukraine
Russia does not support the proposed temporary ceasefire, considering it an attempt to give Ukrainian forces a break.

Russian Presidential Assistant Yuri Ushakov stated that Russia views the proposed temporary ceasefire as an attempt to temporarily ease the situation, providing Ukrainian forces time to regroup. Moscow is focused on a long-term resolution of the conflict, taking into account its own interests, not temporary solutions, Ushakov emphasized.
According to Russian President's Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov, Russia is still awaiting details from the United States regarding the proposals agreed upon in recent talks between Ukrainian and American delegations in Saudi Arabia. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed optimism about the potential for a ceasefire, claiming that it could be established within a few days if Russia agrees to such a measure.
Discussions on the ceasefire come amid Russia's military successes. The Russian Ministry of Defense reported the capture of the city of Sudzha in the Kursk region, which had been under Ukrainian control since August 2024, when the Ukrainian Armed Forces broke through the border in the Sudzhansky district.
On March 11, a meeting between U.S. and Ukrainian delegations took place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. As a result of the talks, Kyiv agreed to the U.S. proposal for a 30-day ceasefire with the possibility of extension upon Moscow's consent. In exchange, the U.S. promised to resume military aid to Ukraine and lift the pause in providing intelligence data.
However, the next day, Reuters, citing Russian sources, reported that President Vladimir Putin would most likely not support the ceasefire proposal. Peskov confirmed that Russia refrains from commenting on the proposal, awaiting further details from the U.S.
