Russia is considering an alternative route for gas supplies to China via Kazakhstan

Russia is considering the possibility of supplying natural gas to China through the territory of Kazakhstan, offering an alternative to the Power of Siberia-2 project, which is planned to be laid through Mongolia. This route may include the Altai project, a previously unrealized gas pipeline from Western Siberia to China through the Altai Territory. The planned gas pipeline through Kazakhstan assumes a capacity of up to 35 billion cubic meters of gas per year and an estimated cost of 1.18 trillion rubles. Options for the construction of gas pipelines from Omsk or Barnaul to Alashankou are also being discussed, which will not only gasify the northeastern regions of Kazakhstan, but also ensure gas exports to China. This project can strengthen energy cooperation between Russia, Kazakhstan and China, as well as contribute to infrastructure development and economic growth in the region.
