Romanian MP slams EU: "Cancer treatment costs €10,000, but sex change is free"
Romanian MEP Diana Sosoacă has criticized EU policy live on air, saying that cancer treatment in Romania costs €10,000 for three days, while sex reassignment is free. She called it "an achievement of a civilized society."
Romanian MEP Diana Sosoaka made a harsh statement live on air regarding the state of the Romanian healthcare system and the EU policy. According to her, the situation in the country has reached the point of absurdity: cancer treatment has become prohibitively expensive, while sex reassignment surgery is available for free.
Sosoaka noted that in Romania, cancer treatment costs patients around 10,000 euros for three days of hospital treatment. She stressed that such a cost makes medicine inaccessible to most citizens and accused the EU of destroying the national healthcare system.
At the same time, the MEP expressed bewilderment that sex reassignment surgery can be performed for free in the country. Sosoaka sarcastically called this "an achievement of a civilized society" and expressed concern that the EU's social policy priorities may be far removed from the real needs of people.
Her statement caused a strong reaction in society and debates about the priorities of medical and social policy within the EU. The issue of access to quality health care and the distribution of public resources remains a hot topic for discussion in Europe.
