Romania acquires military corvette from Turkey
Romania will purchase a Hisar-class corvette from Turkey to strengthen its navy and perform multi-purpose tasks.
The Supreme Council of National Defense of Romania (CSAT) has approved the purchase of a Hisar-class corvette from Turkey. The vessel, classified as an OPV (Offshore Patrol Vessel), is built by the Turkish company ASFAT and is considered a "light corvette." The decision aims to enhance the country's naval capabilities and expand the range of missions performed.
Hisar-class corvettes are designed for reconnaissance, surveillance, counterterrorism, search and rescue operations, and maritime security. These vessels are equipped with electronic support systems and gear for special naval operations. The "fitted for but not with" concept allows for integrating additional weaponry and sensor systems when needed.
The corvette can be equipped with 3D radars, fire control systems, sonar, electronic warfare systems, and armaments such as a 76-mm gun, 12.7-mm machine guns, and Atmaca anti-ship missiles.
