Red Cross condemns the killing of medical workers in Gaza
The International Committee of the Red Cross expressed deep outrage over the death of 14 humanitarian workers in Rafah, southern Gaza.

The ICRC issued a statement expressing shock and sorrow following the deaths of staff from the Palestinian Red Crescent, Civil Defense, and the UN. Among the victims were 8 Palestinian Red Crescent workers, 5 Civil Defense personnel, and 1 UN representative. The organization noted that the deceased risked their lives to help others and extended condolences to their families and colleagues.
On March 23, the Palestinian Red Crescent reported that four ambulances with crews, heading to the scene of an attack in Rafah, were blocked by the Israeli military. Some medical workers were injured. On the same day, the Gaza Civil Defense Agency reported losing contact with rescue teams sent to assist.
On March 25, the Gaza government announced that Israeli forces had detained 15 ambulance and Civil Defense workers. A few days later, the body of one of the missing, Anwar Abdelhamid al-Attar, was found, mutilated.
On March 28, it was announced that the search operation had concluded, with the bodies of 14 deceased workers found: 8 medics, 5 rescuers, and one UN representative. The search continues, as one medic is still listed as missing.
The ICRC called for the protection of humanitarian workers and expressed concern about violations of international humanitarian law. The organization demands a thorough investigation of the incident and the ensuring of safety for workers providing assistance on the ground.
