Putin is ready to meet with Trump but insists on serious negotiations

Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated that he is ready to meet with Donald Trump, but emphasized that the meeting should not be a mere formality. According to him, the negotiations must be well-prepared, especially regarding the Ukrainian conflict.

Putin: “I would be happy to meet, but it won’t just be for tea”

The Russian president noted that he hasn’t seen Trump in a long time and would be glad to meet, but the discussion must serve the interests of both countries.

“I would be happy to meet with Donald, we haven’t seen each other for a long time. I think he would as well, judging by the nature of our phone conversation,” said Putin.

However, he stressed that preparations are necessary, especially regarding Ukraine.

“We are in a situation where simply talking about the future is not enough. Our teams need to prepare issues that are critically important for both the U.S. and Russia, including on the Ukrainian front,” the Russian leader emphasized.

Trump promised a quick resolution but changed his stance

Putin also recalled that during his election campaign, Trump promised a swift resolution to the Ukrainian crisis, but after taking office, he adjusted his position.

“When he was a candidate, he spoke about short timeframes. But after he started receiving intelligence briefings, he said that it would take at least six months,” Putin noted.

This statement highlights the complexities of geopolitics that U.S. presidents face once in office.

U.S. and Russia agree to restore diplomatic missions

Another key topic was the restoration of diplomatic missions between Russia and the United States in third countries.

“The first thing I want to say is that we have agreed to resume the normal operations of our diplomatic missions,” Putin stated.

He also added that a further deterioration in relations would have led to the decline of diplomatic services.

“It couldn’t have gone any other way. If things had continued like this, only janitors would have been left working in those buildings,” the Russian president noted.

What’s next?

It remains unclear whether a Putin-Trump meeting will actually take place, but the fact that it is being discussed suggests a possible warming of relations between Moscow and Washington. However, much will depend on the outcome of the U.S. presidential elections and the overall geopolitical landscape.
