Public resonance Kuandyk Bishimbayev

The information about the completion of the court investigation and preparation for the debate in the case against the former Minister of National Economy of Kazakhstan Kuandyk Bishimbayev on charges of the brutal murder of his wife Saltanat Nukenova, the online broadcast of which attracted the attention of more than 5 million viewers both in Kazakhstan and throughout the post-Soviet space, and had a significant impact on the socio-political space of the country, becoming the most resonant trial in the history of independent Kazakhstan. The Kazakhstani court will proceed to the procedure of debates, after which the jury will pass the final verdict on the defendant.

As is known, the public resonance of this trial went far beyond the borders of Kazakhstan and became somewhat comparable to the famous trial of the murder of his wife by the American baseball star OJ Simpson, when also on live television the jury was able to reach a verdict on the innocence of the killer and thus prevent interracial clashes in the United States. However, unlike in the U.S., in Kazakhstan the sentence to be passed on Bishimbayev is largely predetermined; it should be recalled that Bishimbayev is charged under Art. 110 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan "Torment" and Art. 99 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan "Murder with the intent to kill". 99 of the Criminal Code of the RK "Murder with particular cruelty", as a result of which he faces up to 20 years of imprisonment or even life imprisonment, however, in the end, the decision on the guilt or innocence of Bishimbayev will be made by the jury, and it is they, being under unprecedented public pressure, can make a decision that will be based not on the facts presented by the parties in court, but on the expectations approved in the socio-political space of the country, which in reality should not and cannot be a measure of fairness and justice

It should be noted that at present the only participants in the trial who are seeking not just a harsh, but a life sentence for Bishimbayev, are the relatives of the deceased Nukenova, and in particular her sibling Aitbek Amangeldy, who all this time has been appearing in court as a victim and single-handedly leading the relevant information campaign in the socio-political space of Kazakhstan, as a person who, due to his non-traditional sexual orientation, is categorically opposed to domestic violence It is Amangeldy, for whom the death of a young woman as a result of a brutal murder has become not only a personal and family grief, but also a reason for his own excessive publicity and development of a "personal blog", that causes a certain kind of rejection from certain opinion leaders and representatives of the Kazakhstani blogosphere, who believe that the tragedy cannot serve as a reason for a "powerful personal PR", and as a result may play not the least role in this criminal trial, causing rejection from the jury, which may also affect the public opinion of the court.
