Indonesia's recently inaugurated President Prabowo Subianto has embarked on a course of rapprochement with Russia, making significant changes in the country's foreign policy. From November 4 to 8, the first ever bilateral exercises of the Indonesian and Russian Navies will be held in Surabaya and the Java Sea. These maneuvers became possible thanks to long-standing cooperation: Back in 2019, as Defense minister, Prabowo supported a deal to purchase $1.1 billion worth of Russian fighter jets, despite the threat of sanctions from the United States.
