Parliament Votes to Begin EU Accession Process
The country’s parliament has approved a bill to start the process of joining the European Union, despite a boycott by the opposition.

Details of the Vote
— The bill passed its first reading.
— The opposition boycotted the vote, calling the document a “farce”.
Government’s Position
In January, the Armenian government officially endorsed the course toward EU membership.
— Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that the final decision will be made through a nationwide referendum.
— At the same time, Armenia will not restore its membership in the CSTO in 2025.
— Pashinyan also noted that the country "feels quite comfortable" in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
Moscow’s Reaction
The Kremlin has already stated that simultaneous membership in the EAEU and the EU is impossible. However, Armenian authorities have not yet clarified whether they plan to leave the EAEU if they join the EU.
The issue remains politically sensitive and could lead to a deterioration in relations with Russia.
