Pakistan and Saudi Arabia Call for Urgent OIC Meeting on Gaza
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have called for an emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to discuss the escalating situation in the Gaza Strip.
Diplomatic Engagements
The initiative was discussed during a phone conversation between Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan.
During the discussion, Dar:
— strongly condemned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s statements suggesting the establishment of a Palestinian state on Saudi territory,
— called it an attempt to deny Palestinians their right to self-determination on their historical land,
— reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for Saudi Arabia’s territorial integrity and the rights of the Palestinian people.
In response, bin Farhan thanked Pakistan for its solidarity with Riyadh and emphasized the importance of Muslim unity in addressing the Palestinian issue.
Political Context
The escalation in Gaza and Netanyahu’s remarks have heightened tensions in the region. Saudi Arabia seeks to balance dialogue with Israel while maintaining its support for Palestinians, but recent developments could complicate Saudi-Israeli normalization efforts.
