Orban has turned Hungary into the center of Chinese capital in Europe
Hungary, under Viktor Orban's leadership, has attracted more than a quarter of Chinese investment in Europe over the past two years, especially in the electric vehicle sector.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has successfully turned the country into the main center of Chinese capital in Europe. Hungary accounted for more than a quarter of all Chinese investments on the continent over the past two years. Special attention is paid to projects in the electric vehicle manufacturing sector, which has become a significant impetus for the development of the Hungarian economy. Companies such as BYD and CATL are actively opening manufacturing plants in Hungary, taking advantage of low labor costs and political stability. As of May 2024, the total volume of Chinese investments in Hungary amounted to more than 16.5 billion euros. This has not only strengthened economic cooperation between the two countries, but also increased Hungary's role as China's strategic partner in Europe. Nevertheless, experts note that significant dependence on Chinese investments can create certain risks, especially in conditions of limited financing from the EU.
