McDonald's was at the center of a major scandal after an outbreak of E. coli associated with the chain's burgers led to the death of one person and the hospitalization of 49 victims. According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, most of those infected ate Quarter Pounder, an analogue of the Royal Cheeseburger. The company temporarily removed the burger from the menu, suspecting that the reason was sliced onions from one of the suppliers. Against the background of this news, McDonald's shares fell by more than 9%. Curiously, the scandal broke out two days after Donald Trump's visit to one of the chain's restaurants as part of the election campaign.
