In Maryland, authorities will pay $2.75 million to women and black candidates who failed police exams. The U.S. Department of Justice has acknowledged that the use of physical and mental aptitude tests in hiring discriminated against these candidates. Statistics showed that 81% of men and 51% of women pass the exam successfully, as well as 91% of whites and 71% of blacks.
