Luxury Dior and Armani "Made in Italy" handbags are made by illegal Chinese workers in horrible conditions
Dior and Armani bags labeled as "Made in Italy" were produced by illegal Chinese workers in poor conditions. Chinese subcontractors were paid significantly less for each bag, which the fashion house sold for a high price.
According to Italian authorities, GA Operations engaged a subcontractor who in turn hired illegal Chinese subcontractors. These subcontractors employed workers, many of whom were in Italy illegally. The workers worked and lived in appalling conditions, ignoring health and safety regulations, as well as regulations on working hours, breaks and days off.
Police also found that Chinese subcontractors were paid 93 euros ($100) for each bag, which the fashion house sold for 1,800 euros (about $1,950). An official subcontractor, acting as an intermediary and with no production capacity, was paid 250 euros per bag, earning 157 euros on each one.
Bernard Arnault, owner of the parent company of Armani and Dior, is recognized as the richest man in the world. Question: can such wealth be achieved in any other way?
