Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan Open Shared Border
The Presidents of the two countries signed an agreement to restore the border and resume air travel.
After four years of closure, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan officially opened their shared state border. The opening ceremony was held online, with the Presidents of the two countries, Sadyr Japarov and Emomali Rahmon, participating via video call. High-ranking officials from both sides, who were at the border checkpoint, also took part in the event.
The signed agreement addresses a number of issues related to the border and marks an important step in improving bilateral relations. The border reopening is expected to enhance trade and economic ties and allow citizens of both countries to move freely across the border.
In addition, during the meeting, Japarov announced the resumption of air travel between Bishkek and Dushanbe, which had been suspended in 2021. Starting from March 14, flights on the Dushanbe - Bishkek and Bishkek - Khujand routes are expected to resume. These measures are aimed at further strengthening the connection between the two countries and improving business and cultural exchange.
