Kazakhstan Adopts Refugee Identity Card Template: A New Stage in Supporting Migrants
Kazakhstan has approved a new sample of refugee document according to the order of the Minister of Labour dated 22 May 2024. It is in line with international standards and will come into effect from 9 June 2024.
By order of the Minister of Labour and Social Protection of the Population of 22 May 2024, a sample refugee identity card was approved and requirements for its protection were established. The refugee document is developed taking into account international standards for machine-readable travel documents. Its format is an 88x125 mm brochure consisting of a cover and 6 sheets (12 pages). The cover is made of wear-resistant blue material and contains inscriptions in Kazakh and English, as well as the image of the national emblem of the Republic of Kazakhstan embossed with gold foil. The certificate is equipped with special anti-counterfeiting elements, including a high-contrast watermark in the form of ‘KAZ’ ornament and fluorescent fibres on the pages, visible in dark red under normal lighting. The order comes into force from 9 June 2024.
