Ireland appoints first Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Palestine
On November 5, Ireland officially appointed Gilan Wahba Abdalmajid as the first plenipotentiary Ambassador of Palestine, which was an important step in strengthening diplomatic relations between the countries.
Ireland has taken a historic step by appointing the first plenipotentiary Ambassador of Palestine. On November 5, Gillan Wahba Abdulmajid, who previously headed the Palestine Mission in Dublin, became the new ambassador. This step was made possible by Ireland's recognition of a sovereign and independent Palestinian State in May, which paved the way for the establishment of full-fledged diplomatic relations on September 29, 2024. On October 17, the Palestinian Authority sent a request to upgrade the status of the Palestinian representative office in Ireland to the level of a permanent embassy. This step was proposed in accordance with the 1961 Vienna Convention, which guarantees the protection of diplomatic personnel. The appointment of the ambassador testifies to the desire of the two countries to strengthen relations and promote mutual cooperation in the international arena.
