Impact of road conditions on road accidents in Kazakhstan
The ‘No Roads, No Taxes’ project highlights the acute issue of the impact of road surface quality on road safety in Kazakhstan.
Our research shows that poor road conditions are causing a significant number of road traffic accidents (RTAs) that not only result in property losses but also claim lives.
Over the past two months, we have been analysing reader feedback and data collected in a series of articles on the state of the country's road infrastructure. The information on accidents caused specifically by deficiencies in the road surface has become particularly relevant. From January to April 2024, 164 road accidents occurred in Kazakhstan, killing five people and injuring over a hundred.
To get a more complete picture, we turned to data from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan and information from insurance companies. This data confirms that many of these accidents could have been prevented with more attention to the condition of the road surface.
It is important to note that this problem requires immediate attention from government structures. Improving the quality of roads will not only reduce the number of accidents, but will also help prevent the loss of lives. Representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and insurance companies emphasise that every investment in road infrastructure is an investment in the safety of citizens.
The ‘No Roads - No Taxes’ project calls for an active discussion of this topic and the search for solutions that will help make Kazakhstan's roads safer.
