Imam Khamenei: "The Future Will Show Who Is Truly Weak"

Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei responded sharply to recent remarks by U.S. President Joe Biden, who claimed that Iran is "weakened." Calling Biden a "delusional fantasist," Khamenei, in a meeting with Iranian entrepreneurs, highlighted historical instances where adversaries underestimated Iran's strength and expressed confidence in the continued resilience of the Islamic Republic.

Khamenei’s Statement

Ayatollah Khamenei firmly rejected Biden’s claims, stating:

  • “That delusional fantasist said Iran is weak. The future will show who is truly weak.”
He drew comparisons to past events:
  • “Saddam also thought Iran was weak and launched an attack. Reagan, believing Iran was weak, provided massive support to Saddam’s regime.”

Khamenei emphasized that these miscalculations led to the downfall of Iran’s adversaries:

  • “They, along with dozens of other fantasists, have departed this world, while the Islamic regime has grown stronger day by day.”

Historical Context

  1. The Iran-Iraq War (1980–1988):

    • Saddam Hussein launched an invasion of Iran in 1980, thinking the post-revolutionary nation was vulnerable. However, Iran endured and prevented territorial losses in the prolonged war.
  2. U.S. Support for Saddam:

    • During the war, the U.S. under President Ronald Reagan provided substantial military and financial support to Saddam Hussein, believing it could weaken Iran.

Khamenei uses these examples to demonstrate that Iran’s strength has historically been underestimated, often to the detriment of its adversaries.

Current Context

Biden’s comment about Iran’s "weakness" comes amid intensifying sanctions, international pressure, and domestic protests. However, Khamenei insists that the Islamic Republic will continue to grow stronger despite external challenges.

Khamenei’s Prediction

The Ayatollah expressed his confidence in Iran’s ability to overcome its challenges, stating:

  • “I tell you that this experience, by God’s grace, will be repeated once again.”

This reflects the leadership’s determination to maintain resilience and project strength in the face of ongoing adversity.
