Ilon Musk called WhatsApp a surveillance program
Ilon Musk has accused messenger WhatsApp of spying, saying it is a surveillance program. His comment followed a user's complaint about the appearance of ads in Instagram related to a WhatsApp discussion.
American entrepreneur Ilon Musk has expressed his opinion about messenger WhatsApp, calling it a spyware. This reaction followed a post by a user of social network X, who noticed that he started seeing suitcase ads on Instagram right after he asked a friend on WhatsApp to help him choose a suitcase. The user wondered how this was possible when messages on WhatsApp are completely encrypted.
Musk commented on the post, stating, "Because it (WhatsApp) is a surveillance program." His statement sparked widespread backlash as it touched on privacy and personal data security issues in popular messengers. With users becoming increasingly concerned about the protection of their personal data, such statements from high-profile personalities have attracted significant attention and raised discussions about the reliability of digital platforms.
