During a meeting of EU ambassadors, Hungary blocked the adoption of a document that included security guarantees and additional military aid for Ukraine. This marks another instance of Budapest opposing increased support for Kyiv.

Hungary has repeatedly objected to new financial and military initiatives within the EU in favor of Ukraine, arguing that such measures do not contribute to a peaceful resolution of the conflict. Now, blocking this document could delay the allocation of additional funds and military supplies.

Amid these developments, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis criticized the decision not to invite the Baltic states to the London summit. He called it a mistake, emphasizing that the Baltic countries are on the front lines near Russia and have been active supporters of Ukraine.

Landsbergis stressed that such discussions should include all interested parties, not just the major European powers. Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia expressed disappointment over their exclusion from a summit where strategic European security issues will be discussed.

Hungary’s actions and the Baltic states’ reaction highlight ongoing divisions within the EU regarding support for Ukraine. While most European nations advocate for increased military and economic aid to Kyiv, some countries continue to question the effectiveness of these measures.

The impact of these disagreements on EU unity and Ukraine’s support prospects will become clearer after the London summit, where leaders of Europe’s major powers will convene.
