Hand-held dust collectors: how they were cleaned before the advent of electric vacuum cleaners
Until the 20th century, cleaning was a real workout: hand-held dust collectors with bellows and pumps required considerable effort.
The next time you are too lazy to turn on the vacuum cleaner, it is worth remembering what a difficult process cleaning was before the advent of electric vacuum cleaners in the early 20th century.
Before electricity: Instead of the usual vacuum cleaners, so-called "hand-held dust collectors" were used. These devices were equipped with bellows and pumps, which required considerable physical effort to create the necessary vacuum.
The cleaning process: Cleaning turned into a full-fledged workout: it was not easy to wield the bellows and manually pump the pump. In addition, the efficiency of such devices left much to be desired — cleaning took a lot of time and effort.
Comparison with modernity: Today, thanks to technological progress, vacuum cleaners do all the dirty work for us. But if it ever seems to you that cleaning is boring and tedious, just remember the times when even getting rid of dust could make you sweat a lot. So turning on the vacuum cleaner is not so bad, would you agree?
