Hamas accepts new ceasefire proposal for Gaza
Hamas has agreed to a new ceasefire plan for Gaza brokered by Egypt and Qatar. The group hopes Israel will not obstruct the agreement as tensions remain high amid ongoing conflict.

Hamas has accepted a new ceasefire proposal for Gaza presented by Egypt and Qatar. It expects that Israel will not disrupt the implementation of the plan.
The Palestinian movement Hamas announced its acceptance of a new ceasefire proposal in the Gaza Strip, put forward by Egypt and Qatar, who are mediating the negotiations. Hamas leader in Gaza, Khalil al-Hayya, confirmed that the Palestinian side responded positively to the initiative. He expressed hope that Israel would not obstruct the implementation of the agreement or undermine the efforts of international mediators. The details of the proposed plan have not been officially disclosed.
According to information from international observers, the new agreement includes a second phase of the ceasefire and a prisoner exchange between Hamas and Israel. The first phase of similar arrangements was previously implemented, but Israel later refused to continue the agreement. A Hamas representative stated that the organization fulfilled all its obligations under the reached agreements, whereas Israel unilaterally suspended its participation in the process.
It is reported that Tel Aviv submitted an alternative proposal, requiring Hamas to release ten hostages, while the Egyptian proposal called for the release of five. Israeli authorities also hope to reach an agreement before the Jewish holiday of Passover, which takes place from April 12 to 20. Negotiations involving the United States are ongoing, but the contents of the proposed plans remain confidential.
On March 18, the Israeli army carried out a sudden airstrike on Gaza, killing over 920 people and injuring more than 2,000. This attack occurred amid an active ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement, sharply escalating the conflict. Hamas accused Israel of violating the agreements.
Since October 2023, more than 50,200 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza due to military actions, with the overwhelming majority being women and children. Over 114,000 people have been injured. International human rights organizations report a growing number of casualties and destruction. In November last year, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Furthermore, Israel is accused of genocide in a case initiated in the International Court of Justice. This case examines the actions of the Israeli side that led to the mass deaths of civilians and the destruction of civilian infrastructure. The international community continues to call for de-escalation and a return to negotiations, despite ongoing tensions.
