Germany remains divided: economic differences between East and West persist
East Germany remains economically backward compared to West Germany, despite the past 25 years after unification. The business never moved to the eastern regions, which led to a significant difference in salaries.
More than 25 years have passed since the unification of Germany, but the country has remained virtually divided into two parts. Despite significant efforts at economic alignment, businesses are in no hurry to move to the eastern regions, which leads to significant differences in living standards and salaries between East and West Germany.
Salaries in the eastern lands are a third lower than in the western ones, reflecting the continuing economic gap. Many eastern regions continue to experience a lack of investment and jobs, which contributes to the outflow of young professionals to the western parts of the country. Economic inequality between east and west Germany remains an urgent problem that requires further attention and solutions.
