Davutoğlu’s Arguments

"The last legitimate state of Gaza was the Ottoman Empire"
Davutoğlu argued that after the fall of the Ottoman Empire, Gaza came under a British mandate, which did not grant citizenship, making Israel an illegitimate state entity.

"Turkey is the rightful successor of the Ottoman Empire"
He claimed that Turkey has a historical responsibility toward Gaza’s residents, as they are descendants of Ottoman subjects.

"Gaza should become an autonomous region within Turkey"
Davutoğlu suggested holding a referendum to allow Gaza to join Turkey as an autonomous region until a Palestinian state is established.

"Turkey will defend Gaza from the U.S."
He emphasized that if Gaza becomes an autonomous Turkish region, no one, including the U.S., will be able to seize it.

Political Context

Davutoğlu’s statement comes as a response to Donald Trump’s recent remarks, in which the U.S. president claimed that Gaza would come under American ownership.

This proposal introduces a new geopolitical dimension to the debate over Gaza’s future, potentially shifting power dynamics in the region. However, Turkey’s official stance on this idea remains unclear.
