The police and the National Security Committee (KNB) of Kazakhstan conducted a major operation to detain 15 members of the Wild Arman gang in the cities of Almaty and Shymkent. The operation, conducted with the assistance of the General Prosecutor's Office, completed the active phase of liquidation of particularly dangerous criminal groups involved in the January 2022 riots.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Kazakhstan, the detainees are suspected of involvement in the activities of one of these groups. Kuandyk Alpys, head of the Department for Combating Organized Crime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, said that despite the arrest of the group's leader and main members, the rest of its members continued to engage in illegal activities at large.

During the operation, 40 searches were conducted, during which more than 10 firearms were seized. All detainees were placed in a temporary detention center.

The police emphasized that over the past two years, the activities of 140 criminal groups had been suppressed, and more than 550 of their members had been brought to justice.
