Europe proposes to fine Chinese airlines for flights over Russia
The director of the Dutch airline KLM has proposed to fine Chinese airlines for using Russian airspace, which has been closed to the EU since 2022. In her opinion, this gives Chinese carriers a competitive advantage, creating unequal conditions for European airlines.
A proposal to impose fines on Chinese airlines that continue to use Russian airspace is being discussed in Europe. The initiative came from the director of the Dutch airline KLM, who indicated that from 2022 access to Russian airspace is closed to EU airlines, which increases travel time and flight costs. As a result, European carriers, which are already experiencing difficulties due to staff shortages and rising fuel prices, are losing their competitive position compared to Chinese airlines.
