EU Seeks €150B Funding for Ukraine’s Air Defense and Weapons
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has announced plans to raise €150 billion through loans to expand air defense production in the EU and supply weapons to Ukraine.

This initiative is part of a broader €800 billion rearmament plan aimed at strengthening the defense capabilities of EU member states.
Von der Leyen also proposed increasing EU countries' defense spending by 1.5% of their GDP. In her view, Europe must invest more actively in the military industry to ensure its own security and continue supporting Ukraine.
The initiative aims to accelerate arms production and enhance the independence of the European defense sector. The EU seeks to reduce its reliance on U.S. military aid and take greater responsibility for its own security.
Project funding will be sourced from financial market borrowings. The funds are expected to be used for modernizing the European defense industry, increasing ammunition, missile, and air defense system production, and further equipping Ukraine with necessary weaponry.
This initiative demonstrates that the EU continues to strengthen its military support for Kyiv despite economic challenges and internal disagreements over defense spending.
