Footage from the Chinese city of Ruili has surfaced, showing maternity ward nurses shielding newborns during a powerful earthquake. The epicenter was located near the Myanmar-China border, but tremors were felt across six countries in the region — China, Myanmar, Thailand, Bangladesh, Malaysia, and Vietnam.

Myanmar bore the brunt of the disaster and declared a national day of mourning. According to the latest reports, more than 1,700 people have died, 3,400 have been injured, and over 300 are still missing. Rescue efforts are hampered by damaged infrastructure and communication breakdowns.

Widespread destruction has been recorded. In parts of Myanmar and China, buildings have collapsed and medical services have been disrupted. In Ruili’s maternity ward, medical staff continued to protect infants amid aftershocks, refusing to abandon their posts. The images sparked a wave of sympathy and support online.

In Thailand and Bangladesh, the quake was felt nationwide, but damage remained localized. Authorities have urged residents to follow safety precautions and prepare for possible aftershocks. Malaysia and Vietnam reported minor structural damage and brief power outages.

Seismologists confirmed the earthquake had a magnitude of over 7.0 on the Richter scale. Aftershocks are ongoing, and the situation remains tense. The international community has offered condolences and pledged humanitarian aid to affected nations.
