Could a seal have travelled up to the upper reaches of the Ural River and ended up in the Indersky District? This question was put to the official eco-ambassador in Kazakhstan, dedicated to the study and rescue of Caspian seals, Asel Baimukanova, a researcher at the Institute of Hydrobiology and Ecology in Almaty.

"Based on historical data, there are references that the Caspian seal used to be able to go up the Ural River up to 200 kilometres. Therefore, taking into account that now there are strong floods, the possibility cannot be ruled out. Nevertheless, this information requires more detailed research, and taking into account that the Caspian seal is protected by the state in the Republic of Kazakhstan, representatives of local authorised bodies on nature protection should go to the place and check the reliability of the data. Still, the species identity of the animal on the video is questionable, so we are waiting for official confirmation from the authorised bodies", - said the researcher.
