The Ministry of Transport of Tajikistan has signed a contract with Chinese company Zhejiang Communications Construction Group to build the longest road bridge in Central Asia. This major infrastructure project will be an integral part of the new Obigarm–Nurabad highway, which is being developed as a replacement for the road that will be flooded due to the construction of the Rogun Hydroelectric Power Plant.

The bridge, which will span the Surkhob River, will be over 900 meters long, with total length including access roads reaching 1.5 km. Construction is expected to be completed within four years.

The project is being implemented as part of the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) initiative and aims to enhance transportation connectivity in Tajikistan’s mountainous regions. The bridge is expected to improve logistics, facilitate cargo and passenger transportation, and boost trade and economic development in the country.

The construction of this large-scale infrastructure is a significant step in modernizing Tajikistan’s transport network and strengthening cooperation between Tajikistan and China in the field of infrastructure projects.
