On December 10, Burkina Faso hosted a historic ceremony for the transfer of the first 44 gold bars produced from waste from the gold mining industry. The ingots were obtained at the Golden Hand SA plant after processing 142 tons of tailings from the Essakane mine, which were previously owned by the Canadian company IAMGOLD Essakane SA.

The Prime Minister of the country stressed that these bars will replenish the national gold reserves and become a symbol of strengthening the economic sovereignty of Burkina Faso. The government now aims to ensure that the processing of gold mining waste is carried out exclusively on the territory of the country, and not abroad.

This event marks a new stage in the struggle for the economic independence of the Sahel region, where gold mining is the most important sector of the economy. Waste previously considered useless is now turning into valuable national wealth, demonstrating the potential for recycling and sustainable management of natural resources.

Burkina Faso's desire to control its own resources underscores the importance of strengthening sovereignty and economic self-sufficiency in the face of global challenges.
